Art by Ann Sisel
I am a contemporary intuitive painter. When I begin, I rarely know what I am planning to paint. My goal is to create art work that is unique, gutsy, and colorful.
In my work I love seeing brush strokes, marks from tools, and texture. I often use my fingers for a dot or draw lines or trees with a palette knife instead of a paint brush. It’s a bit of a balancing act as it is in real life.
My formal training came in middle age from the talented professors at Macalester College. As a member of several watercolor organizations in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, I have also taken workshops from nationally known artists.
In the past several years, I have been accepted into regional and national shows, and I have received awards for my unique artwork.

I would like to describe a process or show how I create one of my artworks.
This is a recent experiment using ink and watercolor paint. However I’m painting mostly without using a paint brush. I grabbed watercolor paper, a cut up credit card, a pallet knife, and a rubber glove. My goal was to use my fingers to create dots, my finger nails to make tree branches or fine lines, and the scraping tools to make big swooping forms
that I hoped would make interesting active shapes and lines. In this work I have used the palette knives in curves.
So you can see I am starting with one idea and hope to develop it each day this month to give the viewer new ideas to try.
That is all I will share for now but first I will place that
experimental work in the blog. This way you can see what tools I used.
Please email your experiments to me if you like. I would love to see what you do. email@example.com
